The layout was constructed in 2004 as a new club layout for the Kent Area 16mm Group.
‘HOPFIELDS’ consists of two separate circuits each with loco steam-up and preparation sidings and long passing loops.
The inner circuit has had an extra rail added to the outside to allow members with 45mm gauge stock and locos to run on the layout.
The purpose of the layout is primarily to allow members to run their live-steam and battery powered locos at our monthly indoor meetings ( from October to April).
For exhibition running, scenery modules are added, including a station, loco shed, goods shed and an oast house and associated buildings.
Work has been done to ballast all the track and to add scatter material to the boards to enhance the appearance of the layout.
